Map Network Drive on MacOS

These instructions will allow you to use a remote access tool (VPN) outside of the UW-Extension and UW-Colleges network to gain access to network drives.

To work with your network drives remotely, you will need to know the network path ahead of time.  Before leaving the office please make sure to perform the steps in the following KB article to record your network drive information ---> VPN - Determining Network Drive Paths

Connect to the VPN using the client.   See separate instructions for installing and connecting to the VPN:

Installing VPN Client - Windows 7

Installing the VPN Client - Mac OS X

Once connected select Go from the Finder menu and in the drop down menu select the ‘Connect to Server’ option (as indicated by the red arrow shown below).

The Connect to Server window should appear as shown below.

Enter the path for your Home Drive or the network drive in the following format:
     Home Drive:    smb://servername/sharename/username
     Network Drive:    smb://servername/sharename

We are using  smb://citpfile07/users$/david.dingman-test for this example (as
indicated by the red arrow shown below).

Click on Connect.

You should see the Connecting to Server window as shown below.

You should the see a window asking for your username and password.  Enter your UWCX network (e-mail) user ID and password.

*Note - Name must be entered in the format - uwcx\username (username is typically first.last).  For example uwcx\john.smith.

Click on the ‘Connect’ button (as indicated by the red box shown below).

You should now see the files from your Home Drive (or the network drive) as shown below.

Disconnecting Mapped Drive

To disconnect a mapped drive, open the Finder window for the drive (Home Drive or network drive) and you should see a display similar to the one shown below.

Select the ‘Gear’ icon (as indicated by the red box shown below).

You should see a drop down menu as shown below.  Scroll down the menu and select
Eject – Username     (or sharename)   as indicated by the red arrow shown below.

When the Home Drive (or network drive) has been disconnected, the Finder window will close and disappear from the screen.
