Kaltura (D2L) - Videos in D2L Brightspace

You've created some fantastic videos, and now you need to get them into your courses. The UW Colleges video platform, Kaltura, integrates closely with D2L Brightspace. See how easy it can be to upload, store, and share your videos using Kaltura and D2L.

Users can access Kaltura directly within D2L. No need for a separate login.

Users tend to use two main features of the Kaltura within D2L:

Insert Stuff

You can add Kaltura videos that you own directly into Content, Discussions, and News items in any of your D2L courses.

Follow these steps:

1) Open up your D2L Content, Discussion, or News item.

2) On the Edit HTML File screen, click the Insert Stuff button.

Insert Stuff

3) On the Insert Stuff popup, select My Media, select the video you want, then click Next.

Insert Stuff, then My Media

4) On the preview screen, click Insert.

5) Your video is now in your D2L Content, Discussion, or News item. Click Update to save.

Media Gallery

Each course in D2L has its own Media Gallery, a shared video pool for the course that multiple users can add to. Instructors can use the Media Gallery to post course-related videos or have students post videos for assignments.

Users can access the Media Gallery within any D2L course by going to Resources > Media Gallery.

Media Gallery

Once at the Media Gallery, users will see a list of the videos that everyone has added, and they will have the options to add videos (Add to Channel).

Media Gallery

Instructors will also have the option to edit the Media Gallery settings (Actions > Edit). From there, instructors can add a description to the Media Gallery and add tags

Instructors can also set up moderation (check the Moderate Content box) so that student videos don't go into the Media Gallery until approved by the instructor.
