Class Climate - Taking a survey
This document explains how UW Colleges students can take their online course evaluations through Class Climate.
Class Climate is a campus enterprise course evaluation system used by UW Colleges to evaluate instructors for purposes of tenure, promotion, merit, and retention. The Student Survey of Instruction program is governed by UW Colleges Senate Policy 308, Administering the Student Survey of Instruction, revised Spring 2017. Course evaluations will be administered online for all courses every semester, with a few exceptions. The survey period for most courses is two weeks.
Although students are not required to fill out course evaluations for any of their courses, we've found that students are more likely to do so if we make it easy. There are two main ways for students to access their course evaluations:
By Email
At the start of the survey period, the Class Climate server emails students a link to their course evaluation surveys. To find the link to your online course evaluations, look for an email with the following information:
From: Class Climate Admin <classclimate@uwex.uwc.edu>
Sent: [Date]
To: [Your name] <UWC email address>
Subject: Online evaluation for course: [Instructor] - [Course]
Through D2L
Students can also find their course evaluations by going to the Student Surveys of Instruction widget which appears at the top of most D2L courses during the survey period. It looks like this:
Once students are done with their course evaluations, they can minimize the Student Surveys of Instruction widget by minimizing its title bar, and it will take up much less space at the top of their D2L courses.
Taking the Survey
Whether using the email or D2L methods, clicking on the survey link takes students to the questionnaire, which normally takes a couple of minutes to complete.
The desktop version of the questionnaire looks like this:
The mobile (iOS or Android) version of the same questionnaire looks like this:
After completing the course evaluation for one course, students are directed to a page with their other course evaluation surveys, so it's easy to take them all at once.
