Blackboard Collaborate - Launcher for Windows
On July 26, 2014 the way Windows users access Blackboard Collaborate changed. This change affects students, faculty and staff.
When users first try to enter a Blackboard Collaborate meeting they will be prompted to download and install an application, the "Blackboard Collaborate Launcher". Users will not need local admin rights for the installation, but they may encounter other problems installing or running the application.
The download file is 40 MB, so be aware the download may be slow for some users.
Once the launcher has been installed, it will help users avoid Blackboard Collaborate Java issues. The launcher includes a self-contained install of Java, thus users will not have to contstantly upgrade the Java installed on their system.
Blackboard introduced a similar Launcher for Mac users several months ago, and it appears to be working well.
Solutions for many of the challenges you may face installing or using the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher are addressed in the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher Quick Reference Guide.
