Apple Lync 2011 - Contact Adding Issue
This document helps users who are receiving an error message when trying to add new contacts to Lync 2011 on a Mac.
Problem: Customers receive a message when trying to add new contacts to Lync 2011 "Your contact list cannot be edited in UCS mode using Microsoft Lync for Mac. Please contact your system administrator."
Cause: This issue occurs because the user’s contact list was migrated to the Exchange Unified Contact Store (UCS). This is a new integration feature of Exchange Server 2013 and Lync Server 2013. After the migration, the user’s contact list provider changes from Lync Server to UCS.
Even though Lync 2010 and Lync for Mac 2011 can read the UCS contact list, they can’t change contacts or groups in the UCS. Therefore, users who are enabled for the UCS can't change their contacts list from Lync 2010 and Lync for Mac 2011.
Solution: To fix this issue, use Lync 2013, Outlook Web Access 2013, or Outlook to change your contact list. To do this, follow the steps below!
Log into Outlook via the UWEX/UWC Portal page.
Once in, find the People tab at the top of the page.
Choose Directory in the left hand side menu and type in the name of the contact you want to add.
When the contact appears, select the Add To Contacts option on the right side. Choose Lync contacts when prompted.
If you want to organize your contacts in Lync, select Lync Contacts from the left side. From there you can create groups and organize as you want to.
If you have any other problems or questions, don't hesitate to contact the Service Center by phone, (608) 262-5034, or by web form.
