Installing and Connecting to the VPN Client on Mac

This document explains how to install the VPN client as well as how to connect to the VPN on a Mac.

For UW Colleges or UW Extension owned Mac based laptops connected to the internal network (uwcx.net), the VPN client is available to download through the Self Service application.
Please refer to the following KB article for instructions on how to open Self Service and install programs: ADD KB HERE FOR MAC. If you are having issues installing from Self Service, please follow the instructions below.

For personal devices, or if you are not connected to the internal network please follow the steps below to install the VPN client through the public internet.

Open an Internet Browser and go to https://uwcxvpn.uwex.uwc.edu/uwcx.

Enter your username (first.last) and password in the appropriate boxes, then click Login.


You should see the "Authorized use only" message shown below. Click Continue.


Wait for the AnyConnect client to start the installation process.  Click on the link below to download the installation file.


Find the installation package in your Downloads folder and run the vpn.pkg file.


You may get a prompt that the certificate has expired. Click Continue.


Follow the following instructions to complete setup.





Enter your user name and password to authorize installation of software if prompted.



Once the installation finishes, find and launch the Cisco AnyConnect application.

Type in uwcxvpn.uwex.uwc.edu/uwcx into the field and click Connect.


You will be prompted for your credentials. Enter your user name (firstname.lastname) and password and click OK.


Click Accept to connect.


It can take up to 3 to 4 minutes to connect to the VPN. When connected, the window will go away. 

To see if you are connected click on the Cisco AnyConnect icon. You will see the window below showing you are connected.


To disconnect from the VPN, click on the Disconnect button.
