Kaltura CaptureSpace (Legacy) - Finding Failed Uploads

Since Kaltura CaptureSpace was discontinued in June 2019, recordings made with CaptureSpace will fail to automatically upload to Kaltura. Users can still retrieve their files recorded in CaptureSpace and manually upload them to Kaltura.

To avoid this issue, users should uninstall CaptureSpace and install the new recording software, Kaltura Capture. Unfortunately, users often don't discover this issue until after they've recorded a video in CaptureSpace and it has failed to upload.

Use the steps below to retrieve files that have failed to upload from Kaltura CaptureSpace.

The instructions below will assume that the media files are being stored in the default location.  If you are unable to find the media files, please review the Kaltura: How to find local copy of CaptureSpace recording guide to verify the "Local File Storage Location" path for the Kaltura CaptureSpace Installation.

Mac:

  1. Use Spotlight (the magnifying glass on the top right of your screen) to search for your individualized path to the Kaltura folder. For instance, it is /Users/piersoa/Library/Application Support/Kaltura for someone with the username "piersoa." Substitute your username for piersoa.

Alternatively, follow the path to navigate to the folder using Finder, but the Library folder may be hidden. Holding down the option button should make it appear.

  2. Once you have found the correct media file, drag it onto the desktop so it’s easier to upload.

  3. Upload the file to My Media using Canvas.

  4. Embed and link to the file as needed once uploaded.

  5. Use Kaltura Capture for all future recordings.

Windows 10:

  1. In the run box, type: %localappdata%\Kaltura\Kaltura\Media

Note: If the path above does not work, please review the Kaltura: How to find local copy of CaptureSpace recording guide to verify the "Local File Storage Location" path for the Kaltura CaptureSpace Installation.

  2. This will load the default media folder for Kaltura CaptureSpace.  You should see a view that looks similar to the image below.

  3. In the top right corner, search on "*.mp4" to quickly locate all media files that have been recorded.

  4. Once you have found the correct media file, drag it onto the desktop so it’s easier to upload.

  5. Upload the file to My Media using Canvas.

  6. Embed and link to the file as needed once uploaded.

  7. Use Kaltura Capture for all future recordings.
